Oh, how I love Halloween! Outfitting my home in spooky fashion is something I look forward to all year long!
This year, I am going with a vintage theme for my Halloween decor, incorporating an abundance of black lace with a few kicks of antique gold. The project I’m sharing today–Decoupaged Lace Pumpkins–is one that can be completed in an hour or less (maybe a bit more for drying time), yet the end result looks like something you might find at a pricey boutique. Let me show you how easily I put these together!
For this project, you will need…
  • Faux pumpkin(s) (I used 6-inch Funkins)
  • White spray paint
  • Black lace
  • Shears
  • Mod Podge (I used the shiny finish)
  • Foam brush
  • Gold paint (or your desired color for the stem)
  • Small bristled paint brush

Before you begin, check out my 6 Tips for Using Mod Podge Like a Pro!

To begin, spray paint each of your pumpkins white. Allow them to dry completely.

Cut a piece of black lace that is about 1″ wider than the circumference of your pumpkin. Using your foam brush, apply a thin layer of Mod Podge in a circle around the center perimeter of your pumpkin, and use this to adhere the lace to your pumpkin. Stretch the lace as you work to achieve as smooth a surface as possible, but don’t worry if you have a few bumps after this step; you’ll be able to remedy those later on when you apply your sealing coat of Mod Podge.

When you reach the point that the two ends of your lace meet, carefully trim any excess lace away so that the two ends just overlap.
Now, apply a sealing coat of Mod Podge over the entirety of your pumpkin, paying particularly close attention to the lace portion of the project. Hint: Work carefully so as not to cause the lace to shift as you work. When you are finished with this step, your lace layer should be completely saturated with Mod Podge. Allow the Mod Podge to dry completely.

Using your small bristled paint brush, apply gold paint to the stem of your pumpkin, and allow the paint to dry completely.

You are finished!
Wasn’t that easy? I just love how the glossy finish of the Mod Podge mimics the look of ceramic!
