You can respond to your jury duty summons online, by mail, or over the phone. If you respond to your summons online, you'll also be able toupdate your contact information and address, find courthouse information, andcomplete and print your CJQ.

The Details of Respond to your jury summons

What you need for Respond to your jury summons

To respond to your jury duty summons, you need your:

  • Badge Number and PIN (located above your name on your Summons and Reminder Notice)
  • ZIP code on your summons

You can respond to your summons in a few different ways. You can:

  • Confirm your service.
  • Request a disqualification if you believe you're not eligible for jury duty.
  • Postpone your trial juror serviceor defer your grand juror service by picking a new date.
  • Request a hardship transferto another courthouse if it's very difficult or impossible for you to serve at your assigned courthouse.

If you respond to your summons online, you'll also be able toupdate your contact information and address, find courthouse information, andcomplete and print your Confidential Juror Questionnaire (CJQ).

At the end of your submission, you'll also be prompted to fill out the demographic survey, which is required by law and is used to help ensure the jury pool is representative of the community.

How to respond Respond to your jury summons

Responding to your summons online will give you the quickest response and the system is available 24/7. To respond online:

  1. Visit the Massachusetts Juror Service Website.
  2. Enter your Badge Number, PIN, and home ZIP code to sign in. Once you're signed in, you'll see your service date and location.
  3. You can choose which action you'd like to take. You can:
  • Confirm your service

  • Request a disqualification

  • Postpone or defer your service

  • Request a hardship transfer to another courthouse

You'll also be able to update your contact information, find courthouse information, andcomplete and print your Confidential Juror Questionnaire (CJQ).

If you wish to postpone, you will be able to choose your own date of service and get immediate confirmation.Other requests (such disqualification or transfer) will be answered within2 business days if you provide an email address.

To respond by mail, completethe postage-prepaid Juror Confirmation Form at the bottom of your summons using blue or black ink.

  • To request a disqualification, complete Sections 2A and 2B.
  • To request a new date, complete Section 4.
  • To request a hardship transfer, complete Section 3.

Be sure to answer both questions on the mandatory demographic survey (Sections 6A and 6B) and sign your card before returning.

The Call Center can confirm or postponeyour service oranswer other questions.The Call Center can also process some disqualifications, such as age and prior service, but for other disqualifications, you'll need to provide additional written submissions.

Fill out the Confidential Juror Questionnaire

About 10 days before you're scheduled to appear for jury service, you'll receive a Reminder Notice andConfidential Juror Questionnaire (CJQ) (see below).The CJQ helps the court and parties decide if you'd be a suitable juror on a particular case. You should print and fill outthis form and bring it with you to your jury duty, since it can't be submitted electronically.

The day before you're scheduled for jury duty, you must confirm that you'll still be needed by the court. If you've previously confirmed your service online and provided an email address, you'll receive an email the day before letting you know if you'll be needed. Otherwise, you can find out if you'll be needed in 1 of 2 ways:
